Relax, Renew, Revive: Ten Reasons to Be There

Image
On the first weekend of May, 2019,  two colleagues, Thea Rademacher and Joan Scibienski,  and myself are sponsoring Relax, Renew, Revive: A Unique Retreat for Women  at the St. Benedict's Retreat Center in Schuyler, Nebraska.  All women are welcome, and we'd be honored to have you join us.  Here are a few reasons to consider putting this event on your calendar and joining us for a weekend of sisterhood. You'll be able to get away from it all (at least for a weekend). Remember the "Calgon, take me  away!" commercials?  Here's your chance for an entire weekend to indulge yourself in  "Calgon, take me away!" moments. You'll meet amazing, like-minded women. You'll make new friends, and form new connections. You'll receive some really cool gifts, including books, journals, exquisite hand-crafted jewelry, and other fun things. You'll eat delicious food prepared by amazing retreat center chefs. You'll have time to...

WHY A RETREAT?

Image
If you're anything like me, you're over-worked. Over-stressed. Over-booked. Over-tired. You have kids, jobs, spouses, and parents. And you crave time. Time alone. Time for yourself. Time with no distractions. Time to think, relax, meditate, breathe. You crave time, simply, to be. If any of these ideas apply to you, I'd like to invite you to a retreat that Thea Rademacher, Joan Scibienski, and I are creating. This retreat is for you. I was inspired to create a retreat because I know women.  One woman in particular, a while ago, was describing her life.  And this is a life ruled by her job, her child, her parents, and her spouse. "I can't even go to the bathroom by myself." So. . . if you crave some alone time, some "me" time, come to Relax, Renew, Revive:  A Unique Retreat for Women .  Spend some time at the beautiful St. Benedict Center near Schuyler, Nebraska. (Although the retreat center is a religious facil...

"IT'S ORGASMIC FOR ME"

Image
"I love to pray.  I really do. It's orgasmic for me." Iyanla Vanzant recently said these words as she was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. That's it!  She knows what I'm talking about! And she knows there are other ways to achieve an orgasmic state of mind besides simply having sex! What makes me feel orgasmic?  What makes my heart sing? What pushes me into the throes of ecstacy?  So, so, so  many things! I'm a flutist, and when I'm playing my flute in a room with what I call "zingy acoustics," there's a sense of ecstasy I feel. I love to paint with pastels, and when I get a piece of art to a point where it "sings," or "zings," that's orgasmic for me. I've felt a delicious, ecstatic rush when I've seen an otter playing in a loch in the Orkney Islands. I've felt a sense of orgasmic bliss as I've stepped off a treadmill. I even felt euphoria the day my mother died, because I knew her pain...

WHAT'S PLEASURE GOT TO DO WITH DIETING?

Image
What does pleasure have to do with losing weight? On the surface, nothing. But look a little deeper, and maybe pleasure has everything to do with dieting! When we go on a traditional diet, we immediately think in terms of "good" and "bad."  We think of "foods I can have," and "foods I can't have," or "shouldn't have." After a day or two, or a week or two, or a month or two, all we are those foods we "shouldn't have." But when we infuse pleasure into our thinking, we change.  Instead of thinking in terms of "good" and "bad" food, we ask ourselves the question, "What will bring me the most pleasure?" If the answer is a stale candy bar from a vending machine, great.  Go for it.  Enjoy it! But if you would get a deeper level of pleasure, of satisfaction from a single bite of Godiva chocolate, go for that! Or maybe it isn't even chocolate!  May it's a hot, satisfying, h...
